Recognizing our Champions

Here at Arlington Transportation Partners (ATP), we’re excited that 4 out of the 5 finalists from Arlington County are also ATP Champions! Champions aims to recognize businesses and properties in Arlington that have implemented
various transportation programs and amenities to improve the commuting options for employees and residents.

Van Metre Companies, which manages Park Georgetown Apartments (Bronze Level Champion) in Rosslyn, has added transportation amenities and programs such as bike storage and informational materials that not only encourage a healthier lifestyle, but have helped attract and retain new residents at the community.

Washington Real Estate Investment Trust (WRIT) is another management company finalist that manages Bennett Park Apartments in Rosslyn. The property became a Gold Level Champion this year and has implemented various programs including bike storage, Capital Bikeshare promotions, transportation events and surveys to better inform the property about residents’ travel preferences.

SRA International’s Ballston location is 1 of 5 Platinum Level Champions and has shown a strong commitment to promoting healthy commuting options and reducing the environmental impact among employees. Through benefits and programs such as Capital Bikeshare memberships, the IRS Bike Benefit, transit benefit subsidy and a formal telework program, SRA International has been able to retain quality employees while improving productivity and satisfaction in the office.

Virginia Hospital Center, a Gold Level Champion, might sound like an obvious choice for a healthy employer award; however, with several thousand employees, the hospital has taken a proactive approach to improving commuting options and encouraging alternative modes of transportation. Hospital employees are able to ride the ART 51 and 52 bus routes for free, serving those who travel from the Ballston Metro area. There are also secured bike racks, showers and locker facilities for employees to use free of charge. The hospital regularly promotes events such as Walk at Lunch Day and Bike to Work Day, and also hosts employee transportation fairs throughout the year.

Why transportation options matter to your company

Transportation and how we move around is an integral part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, whether you’re walking 3 blocks to the Metro Station or biking 8 miles home from the office. Companies are recognizing this connection by implementing more robust commuting benefits, transportation programs and building amenities. Through these programs and other wellness initiatives, companies see reduced rates of absenteeism, employees are less stressed and more productive and satisfied during the workday.
