Did you know that May is National Bike Month? There are many ways to celebrate, but you’re not going to want to miss out on the month’s largest event: Bike to Work Day (BTWD). Occurring on Friday, May 17, 2024, this annual event encourages commuters to ditch their cars and instead hop on a bike to get to work. Every year, communities around the country come together to celebrate BTWD and Arlington is no exception.
Arlington will be hosting six BTWD pit stop locations throughout the county on the morning of the event and one in the early evening. When registering for the event, you can view the full list which includes pit stops in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Sign up for your most convenient pit stop and you can get your free Bike to Work Day t-shirt there on BTWD!
Bike to Work day is not just about getting from your home to work – it’s a community-wide event that brings commuters together to celebrate a healthier, more sustainable commute option and lifestyle. Long-time cyclists and first-time participants alike will be joining together at the various pit stops for a morning (or afternoon) of fun, community engagement, and giveaways!
One of the key benefits of participating in BTWD is the positive impact that it can have on both your physical and mental health. Biking to work is a natural way to incorporate exercise into your daily routine and you’ll feel uplifted after engaging with participants and vendors at your pit stop. In addition to giveaways, healthy snacks and water will provided at pit stops for a quick recharge before continuing on to your final destination.
By choosing to bike, you can reduce your carbon footprint and contribute towards a more sustainable community and future – not to mention, biking is a cost-effective form of commuting that can save you money on other parking and commuting costs.
Even if you don’t own a bicycle, Capital Bikeshare (CaBi) has got you covered. CaBi has a wide array of stations located within Arlington and the surrounding Metro DC region. Simply download the mobile app or check the website out to find your nearest station. From that point, you can use your mobile app to unlock the bike and ride it to your preferred pit stop.
Whether you’re a long-time cyclist or a first-time bike commuter, BTWD is sure to be a fulfilling event for everyone. Who knows? Maybe you will discover your new favorite commute method while making a positive impact on your community at the same time. Even if you can’t commit to biking to work every day, participating in this event is sure to be a fun and rewarding experience.
So put on that helmet, inflate those tires, and head to your pit stop on May 17 to join Arlington Transportation Partners and hundreds of other cyclists on Bike to Work Day. You’re not going to want to miss out.
