Are rising gas prices hitting your wallet hard? You’re not alone!!  According to AAA the nationwide average for gasoline was $3.864 in mid March as compared to $3.54 last year, that’s an increase of 32 cents! The increase in gas prices has lead to increase in Carpooling and Carsharing.  Here is an article that talks more about car sharing trends in recent times  http://www.todaysthv.com/news/article/202731/119/Sharing-cars-amongst-commuters-a-growing-trend

What is carpooling or carsharing?  Glad you asked.

Carsharing is a type of car rental that is designed to be convenient for people who want to rent cars for short periods of time and only pay for their usage. The cars are parked in reserved parking spots, chances are there’s one such parking close to where you live or work making it convenient to make short trips such as trips to the grocery store or the mall. You may have already heard of Zipcar which has presence in DC metro area as well as many other urban areas in the US.  In the DC area, Car2go is another new option for those looking for car sharing alternative.

Carpooling is when two or more commuters ride together in a private automobile on a continuing basis, regardless of their relationship to each other or the cost of sharing agreements. Carpooling is the simplest and most common "ridesharing" arrangement if you are looking to reduce some of your gas expenses in commuting to work but still want to have access to your car during the day, it doesn’t hurt to check with your co-workers or even your next door neighbor. Another good resource is the commuter connections rideshare bulletin board
