Mastercard has participated in Champions for three years now, and from the beginning of its participation in the program, it was clear that they were committed to enriching the commuting experience of their employees. After wrapping up their first year of Champions at the gold level, Mastercard has only become more and more invested in finding employee commute solutions as they have increased their days-in-office requirements. That is why ATP congratulates Mastercard’s efforts on surpassing their previous achievement within the program by attaining the highest level of recognition in Champions, platinum, as well as becoming ATP's Champion of the Month!
Mastercard has collaborated with ATP on several events and initiatives with the goal of identifying its employees’ commuting needs and providing transportation solutions. Throughout Mastercard's three years in the Champions program, it has truly shown how to stand out as an employer.
Mastercard understands that its employees have unique transportation needs dependent on where they live and what commuting options they have access to. That is why Mastercard has worked with ATP to create plot density maps, updated annually, displaying the number of employees living in certain zip code areas. By identifying the areas where most of their employees are commuting from, Mastercard has been able to work with ATP to deliver customized information and events that are guaranteed to assist employees with finding their own personalized transportation solutions.
From tabling events hosted in its office’s lobby to structured transportation presentations catered to employees, Mastercard has made sure to create several opportunities for its staff to improve their commute satisfaction.
In addition to the events that Mastercard hosts internally, its employees are also keen to participate in and promote ATP-supported community events such as Car Free Day and Bike-To-Work Day.
Mastercard has worked with ATP to promote alternative commute modes to driving alone, along with cost analysis to show staff how they save money by taking transit, ridesharing, or utilizing active forms of transportation.
Focusing on the primary zip code areas that Mastercard employees commute from, ATP was able to showcase accurate monthly cost comparisons between driving alone and taking transit. This highlighted for Mastercard employees how they could be saving money on their commute by taking Metrorail, regional buses, or utilizing other transportation agencies.
Mastercard has also fostered ridesharing interest at its office and has collaborated with ATP to identify carpool and vanpool opportunities for staff. In addition to ATP, Mastercard also partners with Commute with Enterprise to provide vanpooling information and opportunities for those interested.
Additionally, Mastercard has submitted a Bicycle Friendly Business application as a testament to the amenities and benefits that bike commuters have at its building. The office boasts covered and secure bike parking, designated bike lanes within its garage, and nearby bike amenities such as bike-repair stations, showers, and lockers. ATP has also supported cyclists at Mastercard by promoting Capital Bikeshare.
Topping that all off with pre-tax transportation benefits for employees, Mastercard showcases its dedication to supporting alternative modes of transportation. This support extends beyond just the Arlington office as Mastercard has made it part of their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals to drive itself toward net-zero emissions across all locations.
Mastercard serves as a fantastic model for businesses hoping to provide transportation benefits and amenities for their employees. As we enter the final weeks of 2024 and near the end of this year’s Champions period, contact your ATP representative today to finish out the year strong by boosting employee satisfaction and retention.
