Why Shared Micromobility is Important

E-scooters are an easy and eco-friendly way to travel short distances or connect to public transit, making them a great option for residents living in multi-family communities. With more people choosing to live without a car, shared micromobility helps fill the gap by providing a convenient way to get around. Whether it’s commuting to work, taking a quick trip to the library, or just exploring the neighborhood, e-scooters give residents more freedom and flexibility in their daily lives.

For property managers, having micromobility options like Bird, Lime, and Spin available near their buildings can improve resident satisfaction and even help attract new tenants. Many renters today are looking for communities that support sustainable transportation choices, and e-scooters offer an affordable and practical alternative to car ownership. By working with Arlington Transportation Partners (ATP), multi-family communities can promote micromobility as part of their transportation programs, helping residents access reliable, car-free options while supporting the County’s sustainability goals.

ATP provides valuable resources to help property managers introduce shared micromobility solutions, such as customized transportation guides and marketing materials to educate residents on how to use e-scooters responsibly. Partnering with ATP makes it easier for multi-family communities to offer smarter transportation choices that benefit both residents and the environment.

Who’s Providing E-Scooters in 2025

This year, Arlington County has approved 1,600 e-scooters across three companies:

Bird

Scooter Allocation: 600

Bird scooters offer a reliable and convenient way to travel around Arlington, whether it’s for daily commutes, or errands. They are available 24/7 and can be easily rented through the Bird app, making them a great option for those looking to get around without a car. Designed with sustainability in mind, Bird scooters feature advanced battery technology that lasts longer and is monitored in real time to ensure efficiency. Their in-house engineering allows for continuous improvements, offering riders a smoother and more eco-friendly experience while helping reduce emissions.

Bird is committed to sustainability by recycling 100% of their scooter materials and using rider data to support safer city infrastructure, such as bike lanes. Their life-cycle assessment process helps measure and minimize environmental impact from production to disposal, ensuring they remain a leader in sustainable micromobility.

Lime

Scooter Allocation: 600

Lime scooters are widely available throughout Arlington, making it easy for residents and visitors to get around without a car. With a user-friendly app and a strong presence in key areas, Lime provides a reliable way to take short trips or connect to public transit. Lime is committed to making micromobility accessible to everyone through programs like Lime Access, which offers discounted rides for eligible individuals, and Lime Assist, which provides adaptive scooters for riders with mobility challenges.

Lime also works closely with community organizations to support local initiatives and improve transportation options. Programs like Lime Hero allow riders to contribute to the nonprofit with every ride, and their advocacy efforts help promote safer streets and sustainable travel choices. By focusing on affordability, accessibility, and community involvement, Lime scooters provide an inclusive transportation option for Arlington’s growing micromobility network.

Spin

Scooter Allocation: 400

Spin takes a hands-on approach to micromobility by working directly with local communities to provide reliable and inclusive transportation options. Their focus goes beyond just offering scooters; they aim to be a true partner in addressing urban transportation challenges. Spin scooters are designed to serve a wide range of riders, including those who may not have access to smartphones or credit cards through their Spin Access program. This program allows users to unlock rides via text message and purchase ride credits with cash at select locations, making Spin a more accessible option for Arlington residents.

Spin also stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability. They are working toward net negative emissions by using renewable energy, optimizing their scooter manufacturing process, and promoting the shift from cars to scooters for short trips. By prioritizing environmental responsibility and community engagement, Spin is dedicated to creating a better transportation experience for everyone in Arlington.

Why E-Scooters Are a Great Option

E-scooters provide a convenient and flexible way to get around Arlington, whether you’re taking a short trip or connecting to public transit. Renting a scooter is quick and easy through the Bird, Lime, or Spin apps, allowing users to find and unlock a ride in just a few taps. With their availability across Arlington’s neighborhoods, residents and visitors can count on scooters as a reliable transportation option. Arlington County also offers numerous scooter and bicycle corrals throughout the area, making it easier for riders to find designated parking spots and keep sidewalks clear.

Beyond convenience, e-scooters are an environmentally friendly choice that helps reduce traffic congestion and pollution. Choosing a scooter over driving supports Arlington’s sustainability efforts and contributes to cleaner air and less crowded streets. Each vendor also prioritizes safety by offering in-app tips and parking guidelines to ensure riders follow local rules and ride responsibly. With wide coverage throughout Arlington and a strong focus on sustainability and safety, e-scooters are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a simple, eco-friendly way to get around.
