At Arlington Transportation Partners, we work every day with employers in Arlington County to assist them in implementing programs such as transit benefits, telework, bicycle initiatives, and many others. With nearly 80% of the county’s workforce commuting in from outside of Arlington, companies have realized that it is critical to make it easier for their employees to get work. With less stressful commutes, employees are often in better mental health and have higher rates of productivity during the workday, factors that ultimately improve an organization’s bottom line.
In Arlington and the DC region, there are numerous transportation options for commuters that don’t involve driving in a car alone. However, while the area’s physical infrastructure aspects are in place, such as transit service and bike facilities, there are still additional elements of outreach and incentives that often need to occur to convince employees to use alternative modes of transportation. In Arlington, there are over 700 organizations that are doing something to improve their employees’ commutes, from providing brochures on local transit options to offering Capital Bikeshare memberships. These programs not only benefit companies and their employees, but also have a direct impact on reducing traffic congestion making Arlington a more attractive place to live and work.
This summer, through ATP’s Workplace Commute Champions (WCC) program, we will be highlighting employers who are leading examples in implementing commuter programs and transportation benefits to their employees. Organizations such as PBS, SRA International, Corporate Executive Board, and Hilton Garden Inn are just a few of the participating employers who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to making commutes easier, improving employee health, and reducing traffic congestion in the region. We will also be showcasing exemplary organizations on the Employer Client Highlights page on our website – currently, you can read about the programs offered by two additional WCC participants, National Rural Electric Cooperative and Evolent Health.
Employers in Arlington have a significant impact on the quality of life of their own employees, as well as those who live and work in the county. Therefore, we want to give these organizations the recognition that they deserve. For companies that are interested, there is still time to register and earn rewards for your organization’s efforts through the Workplace Commute Champions program. Contact us today to get started!
