As an ongoing project that started in 2021, Metro set out on a mission to replace 130 escalators at 32 different Metro stations across the region in order to ensure they are constantly upholding a high standard of efficiency and safety. The latest station to be impacted by this project is Rosslyn, which will see their escalator repair beginning on January 2, 2024.
The escalator replacement project is set to begin in January and is expected to conclude in December 2025. Despite the duration of this project, the good news is that train service will not be impacted at all—your commute to and from Rosslyn will remain largely the same, though there will be a few escalators out of operation at any given time until the project is completed.
The repairs are set to occur in three phases, and during each phase there will be a number of escalators unavailable due to the ongoing replacements.
There are eight escalators at the Rosslyn Metro station: four entrance escalators and four platform escalators.
Phase 1: Expected to take place from January 2, 2024 through July 2024. During this time, there will be one entrance escalator and one platform escalator closed.
Phase 2: Expected to begin in July 2024, though it will being immediately after Phase 1 concludes. During this time, there will be one entrance escalator and two platform escalators closed.
Phase 3: Will begin as soon as Phase 2 is completed. During this time, there will be two entrance escalators and one platform escalator closed.
Additional information and updates can be found on Metro's project page, but we here at ATP will always work with you to stay informed with all the transportation updates in the region. Although we can’t control when these necessary Metro repairs and upgrades occur, we can work together to ensure seamless transitions as we navigate these impacts to commuting.
