This year, ATP celebrates 10 years of the Champions program through which we are happy to support employers, residential properties, and commercial properties with implementing and expanding transportation options and commuter benefits. For a decade now, Champions have been working with ATP to increase the satisfaction of employees, tenants, and residents while also contributing to making the community more environmentally friendly. Whether they have achieved Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum level, we’ll dive into some of the diverse accomplishments our Champions have made in 2024.
Employer Champions Highlights
H-B Woodlawn:
ATP works with Arlington Public Schools (APS) to ensure that faculty and staff at schools are supported in their daily commutes. H-B Woodlawn created an active commute resource group for staff to communicate, coordinate, and share resources on commute modes such as walking and biking. ATP also just released the updated APS Transportation Benefits Guide to be a handy resource for all APS employees.
The Nature Conservancy:
The Nature Conservancy decided this past year that they wanted to play a larger role in the annually celebrated Bike to Work Day. Although they have always promoted the event to their staff, this year they went a step further by becoming a pit stop partner to provide giveaways and engage with the hundreds of riders that came through the Ballston Pit Stop.
Organizational Development Resource Group (ODRG):
Though new to Champions in 2024, ODRG showed its commitment to employee satisfaction by hosting ATP at their annual wellness fair to provide transportation information and resources.
Multi-Family Residential Champions Highlights
The Alexan Fitzroy
Recognizing that they had a large biking population at their property, the Alexan Fitzroy partnered with ATP to host a Bike Tune-Up event. Together, the Alexan Fitzroy and ATP worked with a local Arlington bike shop to bring a mechanic on site, who provided simple bike repairs and safety checks for residents.
WestView at Ballston Metro Condominiums:
WestView hosted a well-attended ice cream social event for their residents featuring ATP to discuss commuting options and provide transportation resources. Although not explicitly a transportation event, ATP is happy to attend various resident, tenant, or community events to reach a wider audience.
2001 Clarendon Blvd
This property conducted a resident commute survey with ATP’s research partner, Mobility Lab, to track the unique commute patterns of their residents and provide customized transportation solutions based on the results.
Commercial Champions Highlights
Ballston Exchange:
Demonstrating their commitment to providing sustainable transportation options, the Ballston Exchange invited ATP to their tenant round table meeting to engage with both old and new tenants and share customized transportation resources.
Courthouse Tower:
Twice annually, the League of American Bicyclists recognizes businesses with the Bicycle Friendly Business designation for providing excellent biking amenities. Through working with ATP on expanding and promoting biking as a commute option, Courthouse Tower was able to apply and receive the designation in 2024.
Piedmont Office Realty Trust:
A longtime partner of ATP, Piedmont Office manages multiple properties in Arlington and worked with ATP to provide multiple transportation-focused tenant and employee events at their three buildings: 4250 N Fairfax Drive, 3100 Clarendon Blvd, and Arlington Gateway.
Community Highlights
These are just some of the highlights achieved in 2024. With over 150 Champions, employers and properties took countless actions to improve the commuting experience of their employees, tenants, and residents, making Arlington a more sustainable community.
Champions also showed out for various community events such as Bike to Work Day, Car Free Day, and National Walking Day, with over 65% of Champions participating in or promoting them. The actions of Champions directly promote community environmental efforts and contribute to Arlington’s recognition as a top city for biking and walking.
