Emergency Preparedness Month may be over, but we hope that the programs and strategies you have learned about are here to stay (Great Shake Out anyone? ATP participated!).
This past month, ATP had a great time hosting our two Prepare Your Commute seminars for employers and property managers in Arlington County. Attendees at both events were able to hear from both ATP and Debbie Powers from the Office of Emergency Management, who discussed general information about what companies can do to prepare in the event of an emergency, as well as important resources, phone numbers, and tips that employees and residents in the county should be aware of.
ATP provided information specifically on how transportation can be included in an emergency preparedness plan, and also stressed the importance of having a commute backup plan in case workers are not able to get home how they usually do. Some suggested strategies included providing transportation information displays in your office lobby or community space so that employees and residents are aware of all the options available to them. In addition, companies can request individual commute planners for employees, which provide directions from one’s home to their workplace on public transit. Finally, companies can implement a telework policy or consider offering transit benefits.
If you missed our Prepare Your Commute seminars, you can still find important information on emergency preparedness and commuting on our website. Also, be sure to check out the short recap video of the event below! For any additional questions on how you or your employees can Prepare Your Commute, feel free to contact ATP.
