SafeTrack Surges 6 and 7 Means Delays for Red Line Commuters

Written by Keara Mehlert | July 28, 2016

Heads up for Red Line commuters! The next two surges will affect the Red Line, with continuous single tracking and reduced service through August 18. See details below for more information.

Surge 6: August 1-7

Single-tracking between Takoma and Silver Spring

Red Line trains will run between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet every 6 minutes during the AM/PM rush. Passengers traveling to stations north of NoMa-Gallaudet must transfer to continue their trip. (Similar to Rush Plus Yellow Line trains at Mount Vernon Square Station)

Red Line trains will run between Glenmont and Grosvenor every 12 minutes. Customers traveling to stations north of Grosvenor must transfer to continue their trip.

After 10pm trains will run between Shady Grove and Glenmont every 15 minutes.

Surge 7: August 9-18

Single-tracking between Shady Grove and Twinbrook

Trains will serve Shady Grove and Rockville stations every 18 minutes (regularly every 6 minutes during rush hour). All other Red Line stations will have near-normal service.

Customers are encouraged to avoid Shady Grove and Rockville if possible; use Twinbrook, White Flint or Grosvenor instead.
