In 2025, Bike to Work Day (BTWD) will be celebrated in Arlington on Thursday, May 15. BTWD is the standout event of National Bike Month, celebrated every May, in which commuters are encouraged to switch up their current commute mode and hop on a bike to get to work. If you or any of your employees are bike commuters, then you’re already one step ahead!
Arlington will be hosting eight pit stop locations split between the morning and evening, with three of those pit stops hosted by BikeArlington. When registering for the event, participants will be able to see all pit stop locations — sign up for the most convenient pit stop for your commute and make sure to stop by to receive refreshments, snacks, and giveaways. If you’re one of the first 18,000 registrants, you will also be able to receive a 2025 BTWD t-shirt. Don’t wait to sign up!
For those of you who have participated in the event previously, you may notice that for the first time the event is not being held on a Friday. This change is meant to reflect the current state of commuting and in-office culture, as many employees currently do not commute into their office on Friday. With this change, we hope to make this year's BTWD the most-attended one yet!
Bike to Work Day is more than just a day of biking — it’s also a day of community, promoting sustainability, and taking advantage of all that Arlington offers bike commuters as a Gold Bicycle Friendly Community. Whether your office has participated in BTWD for a few years or if this is your first one, it’s sure to be a rewarding experience for your employees.
One of the greatest reasons to participate in Bike to Work Day is for the boost it gives both your body and mind. BTWD is a great way to incorporate physical activity into your morning, which can feel rewarding and uplifting. At the pit stop of your choice, you’ll also be able to connect with fellow participants and local vendors. Take your time to peruse the stands and engage with the community while refueling with snacks and beverages.
Opting to bike helps shrink your carbon footprint and supports a more sustainable, greener community. Sustainable commute options such as biking can have positive impacts on commuting patterns, traffic congestion, air quality, and personal wellness. Plus, it’s a budget-friendly way to commute, which can help you save money on gas, parking, and other expenses.
Capital Bikeshare is a great alternative if you're hoping to participate and either do not own a bike or are unable to use your personal bike. With over 100 Capital Bikeshare stations in Arlington, there is sure to be a station that works for you. Simply download the CaBi app to find stations near you and your end destination. Once you’ve made it to your station of choice, unlock a classic bike or e-bike and make your way to your preferred BTWD pit stop.
We understand that some commutes may simply not be feasible to bike the entire way. If this applies to you or your employees and you are still looking for a way to participate, consider adjusting your commute to include biking for the event. Perhaps you can bike to a Metro station or drive to a closer destination and bike the rest of the way. Just make sure to make time to stop at your BTWD pit stop.
Arlington Transportation Partners is happy to work with you between now and Bike to Work Day to generate excitement for the event. You can get connected with your ATP representative to receive promotional materials for BTWD, host custom bike-themed events, and perhaps even launch a Capital Bikeshare Corporate Membership to make participation that much easier.
So, what are you waiting for? Gear up for May 15 and register for Bike to Work Day to join your community in celebrating bike month and promoting a fun and sustainable commute mode.
