Election Day Commuting

Written by Keara Mehlert | November 5, 2012

Tomorrow is Election Day folks! Make sure to find time to put in your votes – for Virginia residents, check out where your polling location is before you head to work tomorrow!

While many people might find it easier to drive to their polling location on their way to or from work, tomorrow can be a good opportunity to try out another mode of transportation instead! Trip Planner makes it easy to figure out how to get from one location to another on public transportation, as does the Service Nearby tool on WMATA’s website. In addition, to avoid extra traffic during the morning or evening rush hours, commuting by bike (like myself!) might be the fastest and most convenient option, just remember to be visible when it gets dark out!

If you are lucky enough to work close to home, consider taking a walk during your lunch break to vote, while getting some fresh air and exercise. Capital Bikeshare is also a great option for a midday trip to your polling location. As we’ve mentioned before, in addition to active commuting, getting out of the office and stretching your legs during the day is a great way to relieve stress and increase productivity during the work day.

No matter whom you are voting for in this election, we encourage you to take advantage of the different transportation options available here in Arlington and throughout the DC region. If you have any questions about these options, feel free to contact your transportation experts here at ATP today!
