Our Top 5 Multi-Family Residential Champions 2017 Highlights

Written by Sheila McGraw | January 12, 2018

Great things happened in 2017 through Arlington Transportation Partners' (ATP) multi-family residential program and properities participating in Champions. From new company-wide programs to transportation upgrades, here is a look back at some of our favorite Champions moments.

1. Little Free Library and Bike Fix-It Station

At the property level, Dorchester Apartments, a three-time Platinum Level Champion, continued to step up their game. Working with ATP through the years, they have adopted bus stops, provided new residents with SmarTrip cards, and installed an indoor secure bike room. This year, they were more creative and installed a Little Free Library with a bike fix-it station on their property.

2. Capital Bikeshare Community Partners Program

Nothing is as rewarding as seeing the smile on a person’s face as they experience the joy of riding of bike for the first time or trying it again after several years. Working with Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) and S.L. Nausbaum, we were able to make huge strides with the Capital Bikeshare Community Partners Program this year. The partnership resulted in more residents signing up for the program, and more people trying and using Capital Bikeshare on a regular basis.

3. Our Shared Street Pop-Up Event

The Springs and Arlington Mill Residences were instrumental in launching ATP’s first Our Shared Street Pop-Up event. Many parents had voiced concerns about their children commuting to school safely. The event served to alleviate those concerns and provide residents and parents with answers on a variety of topics, including their own commute options. Our Shared Street Pop-Up event registered over 200 attendees, with partners and vendors such as BikeArlington and WalkArlington, Lyft, and The Mobile Commuter Store.

4. Company-Wide Transportation Staff Trainings

Since the inception of Champions in 2014, Dittmar has been a true partner for Arlington Transportation Partners (ATP), as they continue to improve all of their Arlington properties and inform their residents about their best commute options. This year, working with ATP, Dittmar undertook a large effort to train their staff on how to leverage transportation in their leasing strategy with potential residents and to answer any questions that current residents might have about their transportation options in the area.

5. Bike to Work Day

Penrose Square was instrumental with the Bike to Work Day pit stop on Columbia Pike. They promoted the event to residents, and Penrose staff helped store all the supplies, set up the day-of, and hosted their own table at the event. Efforts like these allow Bike to Work Day to be so successful and this year’s event attracted more than 17,000 participants from the DC area. We’re thrilled to work with amazing partners who help ATP carry out our mission and make Arlington a great place to live, work, and play.

Champions 2018

Champions from 2017 will be recognized at our annual awards banquet at The Westin Arlington Gateway in Ballston this February with Sabrina Sussman from Zipcar as the featured keynote speaker.

We also look forward to kicking off Champions 2018 soon after and working with new and existing properties and businesses to keep Arlington a top destintation. Join Champions and express your interest now to set up a meeting with your business development manager.
